Staddon Point Battery was built over the earlier battery at this location. The earlier battery, built between 1845 and 1847, had a lower platform for the guns, and barrack of two storey in the gorge. Very similar to Fort Picklecombe Battery of the same period.
The new battery was built in 1898 with four 12-pdr Quick Fire guns, expanded to six 12-podr Q.F. gun in 1903.
In 2022 the site is being converted into residential units.
