Patton’s Battery is located on the cliff edge some 96 feet above the James Line. Pattron’s Battery was certainly built by 1811 and armed with smoothbore guns. It is shown on maps in 1853 but has disappeared by 1880. It is sometimes referred to as a redoubt for the James Line because it provides flanking fire for this line of defence.
