Between 1876 and 1877 five 64-pdr MLR gun emplacements were built on the salient bastions of the Florian Land Front. These were primarily to defend against land attack. The Notre Dame, 64-pdr MLR was built with two expense lockers, one on each side of the gun. The central pivot and racer have both survived.
