Saxe Point Battery was only a proposed battery, although plans were drawn up. This was to be a six gun battery with 9-inch RML guns, later upgraded to 10-inch RML in plans. This was proposed in the 1880 but was never built. An alternate location was suggested at Beacon Hill, a small hill a few hundred yards to the rear of Saxe Point.
Finlayson Point Battery was built on the cliff edge in 1878.
A Defence Electric Light was built on the foreshore during World War 2.
