Listing Type : Coast Defence Battery

The Light Q.F. Battery was originally built between 1872 and 1873 as an experimental casemate for 12-inch and 12.5-inch RML guns behind iron shields.  The roof of this casemate includes not only a brick arch, but the use of steel girders to reinforce the arches.  There are also large iron eyes to assist in moving the gun.

In 1892 the roof of this casemate was used to mount a light quick fire battery, probably mounting 12-pdr guns.  It then became known as the Light Q.F. Battery with the Heavy Q.F. Battery to the East.  There is also a small gun emplacement next to the casemates.
