Queens Battery at St John’s is located on a cliff top overlooking the channel leading to the main anchorage. The Battery lies on the cliff top above Chain Rock Battery.
The battery was originally built between 1796 and 1797 and mounted with eight 24-pdr long guns and two 8-inch Howitzers. A return from 4th June 1846 shows the battery with eight 24-pdr and a single 12-pdr.
In 1862 the battery was upgraded with six 32-pdr long guns on dwarf traversing carriages. The battery remained operational until about 1870. There was a barrack building and magazine built to the rear of the battery.
