The Menden’s Point Engine Room was built between the 20th June 1898 and 20th June 1901.  The total cost of construction was £2,539, a few hundred Pounds over budget.  The Engine Room is located underground an accessed by a flight of stairs.   There is also a tunnel, leading off from just outside the engine room, which goes down to the two lower Defence Electric Lights.  A separate oil store was built at the same time, see Oil Store entry here.
