Martello Tower No.1 Quebec was one of four Martello Towers built on the Plains of Abraham by the British . They had originally be proposed in the 1790s to protect the approaches to Quebec Citadel. They were not approved until 1807 as a result of the Anglo American crisis of that year. The Martello Towers were built between 1808 and 1812.
