The Old Needles Battery Moat cuts Old Needles Battery off from the rest of the Isle of Wight and has a number of buildings in it and some interesting artefacts.  The Moat at Old Needles Battery was relatively sheltered from hostile fire and was therefore used to accommodate a engine room.  In addition water from a well was accessed in the moat.  The was also a lift shaft in the moat that gave access to the Old Needles Q.F. Battery which was at sea level below.  The key features in the moat are:

Oil Drum Store

Coal Store

Diesel Engine Generator

Underground Steam Engine Generator

Underground Submarine Mine Test Room

Lift Shaft to Q.F. Battery

The Northern end of the dry moat is occupied by a building that houses the lift shaft with an engine and operating machinery.  For more details on these underground works see the listing for Needles Q.F. Battery.
