Fort Scoveston was built between 1861 and 1864. The Fort was initially intended to be one of six land forts protecting the overland approach to Milford Haven. It was the only one built.
The armament was intended to be 32 guns including:
- Five 64-pdr RML guns on Moncrieff Mounts
- Two 7-inch RBLs
- Twenty Four 32-pdr SBBL guns in the five caponiers
Although not know for certain is is believed that Fort Scoveston was never armed. With barrack accommodation for 128, it was primarily used for logistics.
