Battery Woodruff is one of the five coastal defence batteries built on Grande Island. Fort Wint was established by the United States between 1907 and 1910.
Battery Woodruff had two 6-inch M1905 guns mounted on Buffington-Crozier disappearing carriages. The battery site was badly damaged by US bombing in 1945 and little remains apart from the old parapet wall.
