Zonqor Battery

Zonqor Battery was built between 1882 and 1886 as a sister battery to St Paul’s which covered the Southern approaches to St Thomas Bay and Marsascala.  The Battery was initially called Stan Nicola, but from 1885 onwards was call Zonqor.  As with Saint Paul’s Battery, this is very small in size without any accommodation.

When built armed with three 7-inch (6.5 ton) RML guns on parapet platforms.  There was one small cartridge magazine.

The Fort was later used for Position Finding and during World War 2 a couple of Defence Post were built to the front of the battery.  These were Support Defence Posts L19 and L20.
