Pillbox FR1A is situated some 750 feet (230 metres) to the North West of the Defence Post FR1. The correct designation for this small pillbox is not known, but it covers the footpath that winds up from Gneja Bay. It thus protects the approaches to the ridge running up to Fomm ir-Riħ Redoubt.
The pillbox is constructed of poured concrete with corrugated iron shuttering. It is clad in local stone. It has only two small loopholes for small arms fire. It overlooks the footpath but is well concealed.
