Lascaris Bastion (or Battery) was constructed by the British with work starting in 1854. The fortification had two floors of gun emplacements in casemates.
By the 1860s these casemates mounted fourteen 8-inch RML guns. There were an additional four 10-inch RML guns on the left flank and three 10inch Howitzer’s positioned below the Saluting Battery. A single 9-inch RML was placed in a barbette position under the Saluting Battery.
By 1884 Lascaris was armed with seven 64-pdr, 64cwt |RML guns in the casemates. These had presumably replaced the old 8-inch RMLs.
