The French Curtain M.G. Embrasure is located just outside the main gates of Lower St Elmo. This machine gun embrasure is a large aperture cut into the top of the defence wall immediately outside Lower Fort St. Elmo. This embrasure is in a reverse position, shielded from fire from hostile vessels out to sea, by Fort St Elmo itself. It would appear to have been covering the boom defences that ran across the bay to Fort Tigne. It has not be able to determine if there is a chamber within the ramparts or if that was merely an opening cut through the wall.
