Between 1876 and 1877 a 64-pdr MLR gun was mounted on a traversing carriage on the salient of St Paul Bastion. It replaced an earlier 32-pdr SB gun, and it is likely that the adjacent embrasures still mounted 32-pdr SB guns. The actual gun emplacement has been built over with a new emplacement with ramp. It appears that this was for a field gun in World War 2, possibly an 18-pdr. This emplacement overlooks part of the dockyard.
