Listing Type : Defence Line
Location : Gibraltar
Originally built between 1796 and 1804 the counterguard was so high that it tended to shield guns trying to engage from the main Line Wall. In 1841 Jones tried to remedy this by placing the guns in casemates below the level of the ramparts. The embrasures can still be seen on the facing wall. Although now well inland, this battery covered the main harbour area.
