Listing Type : Coast Defence Battery
Location : Ireland
Kilkerin Battery worked in conjunction with Target Island Battery to provide a crossfire where the Shannon River narrowed to one mile. The land for the battery was purchased in 1811 so it is assumed that construction started soon thereafter with completion in 1814. The battery mounted six 24-pdr SB guns with two howitzers on the roof of the defensible barracks for land defence.
