Lei Yue Mun Howitzer BatteryLei Yue Mun Road, Hong Kong
Lei Yue Mun Howitzer Battery was built in 1897 and mounted two 8-inch 70cwt RML Howitzers. The Battery faced East covering the land approaches to the Lei Yue Mun Cantonment. The surviving plans show two gun pits with a traverse between them. There is a small magazine in this traverse. There is a flat platform for the guns to be operated on. In 1904 a Store Building was built to the rear of the emplacement.
The Battery was decommissioned in about 1905.
Lei Yuen Mun Howitzer Battery was built at the same time as Wong Nai Chung Gap Howitzer Battery which covered Deep Water Bay on the south side of Hong Kong Island. This battery is also similar to the seven howitzer Victoria Lines positions built along the Victoria Lines in Malta at the same time.
