Elliot Battery is believed to have been built about 1900 to mount two 12-pdr Quick Fire Guns. It was probably sited to provide cover for the minefield covering the Western entrance to Hong Kong Harbour. In 1904 it is confirmed that the battery has two 12-pdr Q.F. gun and a single Maxim Machine Gun. In 1907 and 1908 Elliot Battery became a Practice Battery and was finally decommissioned in at the start of World War I.
At this time we have not be able to locate any original plans or photographs of the battery. It is assumed that it was a standard two gun quick fire battery with small magazine and shelter. It is likely that the Maxim Machine Gun was to provide additional cover over the minefield.
The site of Elliot Battery has now been completely covered with new development.
