York Redoubt Submarine Mine Observation Station was built at the same time as the Submarine Mining Observation Station at Ives Point on Bruce’s Island, 1877.  This Observation Station remained operation until about 1900 when it was moved to Ogilvie Battery on Pleasant Point.  It has not been established where the Test Room was at York Redoubt but is suggested that it was originally in the underground chamber that was later used as the engine room for the Defence Electric Lights.

York Redoubt Submarine Mine Observation Station has a short access tunnel and semi-circular viewing position with plotting table.
