The construction of Fort Ogilvie commenced in the summer of 1793 on a seventy foot hill overlooking Black Rock Beach at Pleasant Point. The battery mounted six 24-pdr SB guns on traversing carriages in barbette mounts. With the end of the Napoleonic Wars Ogilvie Battery slowly fell into disuse and by 1834 was not operable although the guns were still in place.
By 1861 Ogilvie Battery was again made operation with six 32-pdr SB guns replacing the old 24-pdr guns.
The Battery was then completely remodelled between 1862 and 1870 to mount five 9-inch 12 ton RML guns and five 7-inch 7 ton Mark 1 RML guns.
Ogilvie Battery was again modernized in September 1898 with two 6-inch Mk II BL guns mounted in barbette emplacements. There was a uniform underground magazine located between the two gun pits. (TNA WO 78/3965).
The were 6-inch BL guns were replaced in World War 2 with 4.7-inch BL guns.
One of 6-inch BL emplacements now has a 9-inch RML gun mounted in it, dated 1870 so an original gun for the Battery.
