Ives Point Quick Fire Battery

Ives Point Quick Fire Battery was built between June 1890 and November 1891 and the total cost was £1,532.  The Battery mounted three 6-pdr Quick Fire guns, two guns (Nos. 1 to 2)  in casemated gun emplacements, and No.3 gun in an open barbette emplacement adjacent to the Submarine Mining Observations Post.  The two casemated emplacements are accessed from the rear, while the magazine has its’ own short tunnel. The magazine is between the No.2 and No.3 guns.  This magazine, with a capacity of 882 rounds, had a small shifting lobby and single light recess for a lamp in the lobby.

The casemates appear to be of cut and cover design with concrete walls covered with rubble and earth.  The embrasures are partially camouflaged.
