Chain Rock Battery was built in 1762 when a boom was built across from the point to the land some 200 metres away. Chain Rock initially mounted eight guns, 6-pdr and 9-pdr SB. By 1782 there were two small batteries one with three 8-pdrs and one with two 4-pdrs. It is though the battery fell into disuse by about 1840 and all that remains is some lumps and bumps in the terrain and some cut stone.
