Inchmickery Island was one of the three Island that formed part of the Middle Defence Line across the Firth of Forth. Primarily built during World War I then enhanced during World War II.

Inchmickery Island mounted four 12-pdr QF guns by 1915, primarily to deal with Motor Torpedo Boats and protect the boom defences.
