No. 3 (East) Bastion 12-pdr Q.F. Battery was built in 1901 to help protect the submarine mine field. It is similar in layout to the 12-pdr Battery on Carrick Mount (No.2) Bastion which is adjacent. The two gun pits are on the old ramparts with an underground magazine and shelter between them and slightly to the rear.
