Listing Type : Coast Defence Battery
Location : Canada

Belmont Battery is part of the Fort Rodd Hill complex and lies adjacent to the Lower Battery.  Belmont Battery originally mounted two 12-pdr Q.F. guns.   The Battery was built between 1898 and 1900 and follows a typical design for Quick Fire Guns. Searchlights were provided on the shoreline to support the guns. Belmont Battery and searchlights were intended to cover the submarine minefield and prevent Motor Torpedo Boats entering the main harbour.

In 1944 a Twin 6-pdr was mounted to the front of the original battery.  The control tower was built in 1943 and then given an extra floor in 1945.
