Howth Martello Tower (Tower No.2) was built to protect the small Howth Harbour which it overlooks. The thickest walls face the sea and are some thirteen foot thick. The Tower was completed by 1805 and mounted a single 24-pdr SB gun. The garrison was twenty four soldier and one NCO.
