La Batteries du Cap Vatomainty (Battery of Cape Vatomainty) was built in 1902 to mounted four 190 mm guns, Model 1875-6. The Battery has a gun platform facing out of the harbour towards Diego Suarez. The guns were in a barbette mount without any other protection. Access to Cape Vatomainty Battery is through a long tunnel, from the reverse of a hill. Off this tunnel are six underground chambers used as magazines and for crew shelter. Steps lead down to the magazines, and there is a hoist up to the gun platform.
