La Batteries de l’ Hopital (Hospital Battery) is situated just outside the settle of Cape Diego. Build in 1891 the battery mounted ten 138 mm guns in barbette positions. The guns, with a range of 7,500 meters, were mounted in pairs. Between each pair of guns was a masonry crew shelter and traverse. The battery had no main magazine. In 1914 the battery was reduced to five 138 mm guns.
The site has unfortunately been subject to attack by scrap collectors who have removed much of the metal work including the racers and guns.
Just below the batter is at least one small gun emplacement that looks at thought it was for a 45 mm (3-pdr) Quick Fire gun.
