La Betterie du Champ de Tir is situated just to the north of Ouvrage D on the Orangea Defence Line. Built in 1898 this battery was for four 155 mm guns. It is very similar to the prepared artillery positions the British built along the Victoria Lines in Malta. The battery positions include magazines and rock faced emplacements for the 155 mm guns. The role of the battery was to offer fire support to both Ouvrage D and Ouvrage E. La Betteries du Champ de Tir was identical in role and configuration to la Betterie des Caimans on the Joffre Line.
