The North Sutor 4-inch Battery lay directly opposite the South Sutor 4-inch Battery. The Battery had a total of four guns, mounted in pairs. For ease of reference these have been designated as East and West Battery.
There is an underground magazine and office between the gun pits. There was associated barrack accommodation the hill side above, but apart from the latrines, little remains but foundations. The site of the Engine Room can be seen, but it has been filled with dinette wire and other rubbish.
A pair of Defence Electric Lights were built on the shore line immediately to the West and below the Battery.
The four 4-inch Q.F. guns were intended to counter fast moving Motor Torpedo Boats and Destroyers as well as help protect the boom defences and submarine minefield.
