Practice Battery

The Practice Battery is believed to have been located on the South West corner of Fort Camden in an area known locally as the ‘Lookout’.

In 1873 there were to 64-pdr RML guns mounted in these two emplacements.  This lay to the right (West) of the 10-inch Upper Right Battery.  By 1903 this battery appears to have fallen out of use.  There is a concrete lookout position and a concrete lined trench on the ramparts. (UK TNA WO 192/32).
