Fort Camden Brennan Torpedo Station

The Fort Camden Brennan Torpedo Station was built on the foreshore below the main Fort itself.  There was a dedicated pier linked to the underground building by narrow gauge railway.  The underground building included

This video shows the operation of the Brennan Torpedo Station at Fort Camden in about 1900.  The layout of the various Brennan Torpedo Stations was very similar, particularly the torpedo room and launching halls.

The Brennan Torpedo Station at Fort Camden was built approved on 20th July 1889 and work commenced on the 4th November 1889.  The single slipway and Brennan Torpedo Station was completed on the 25th February 1993.  The total cost of the Torpedo Station was £9,225 a staggering £5,391 over the budget of £3,834.

Fort Camden Brennan Torpedo Station was similar to others built with a large torpedo store, allowing direct access to the slipway.  The engine, boiler and coal room were all to the rear.

The Fort Camden Brennan Torpedo Station is on the shore line, immediately adjacent to the Submarine Mining Establishment.
