Loch Long Torpedo Range is situated near the village of Arrochar. The test site for Torpedoes was completed by April 1912, having been conceived in 1907. The site was primarily intended for the testing or Torpedoes manufactured at the Greenock Torpedo Factory, some fifteen miles to the South.
The range remained in use until 1986. A similar range, which tested the Torpedoes from Woolwich Arsenal was built at Bincleaves near Weymouth.
