Well Battery was built in the 1860 to mount a single 7-inch RML gun on a disappearing mount. This gun pit has an open rear and what appears to be the remains of the above surface magazine in the gorge. This battery faces towards Steep Holm Island,
Well Battery is now heavily overgrown and the gun barrel may well lie in the undergrowth.
There are two Defence Electric Lights close to this battery, one at the foot the glacis.
