Ardnakinna Battery was one of two 12-pdr Quick Fire Batteries built on Bere Island between 1898 and 1902. The Battery was responsible for helping to protect the Western Entrance to the Berehaven Fleet Anchorage.
Ardnakinna Battery mounted four 12-pdr guns and had a Maxim machine gun on each flank. The layout of the battery was almost identical to that of Ardaragh Battery which covered the Eastern approached to the Berehave Anchorage.
