Ardaragh Battery was one of the two 12-pdr Quick Fire Batteries protecting Bere Island. It covered the eastern entrance to Berehaven Anchorage.
The Ardaragh Battery mounted four 12-pdr Quick Fire guns and was of a similar design to Ardnakinna Battery, which covered the western channel. There was also a Gatling machine gun mounted on each flank of the gun line.
There was a search light position on the shore line to the north of the battery with four DELs and a Subsidiary Direction Station.
