Cottage Battery was originally known as Murdock’s Battery. It was originally intended to mount a 6-inch BL gun here. In 1888 as a stop gap a simple platform was built to mount two 7-inch Mark I RML guns. This is a very simple battery overlooking the harbour of Georgetown below.
In 1890 two 6-inch BL guns were finally ordered for delivery the following years. These two modern guns were to be mounted at Bedford Battery that lies immediately adjacent to Cottage Battery.
