Platte Saline Battery was built in the centre of Platte Saline Bay to oppose any landings on this exposed beach. The battery had five 68-pdr guns in barbette positions facing North out to sea. The was a rectangular boundary wall, with a guard room in the centre of the gorge wall. This guard room providing flanking fire both East and West. There was a single mortar platform to the rear of the battery.
