Fort Doyle is situated some 400 metres to the East of Platte Saline Battery. Fort Doyle was completed in 1854 and had a garrison of twenty two men. The Fort mounted four guns, three firing out to sea and the fourth firing along the beach towards Platte Saline Battery. The gorge of the Battery is protected by a loop-holed wall.
