The Arsenal was built on the shoreline immediately to the West of Fort Albert. The Western approaches to the walled enclosure were protected by Mount Hale Battery on the hill running North to South. At the North end of the enclose there was a wall with loop-holed musketry galleries running up the hill towards Fort Albert. At the top there is a two gun battery and guard house. This small batteries covers the whole Ordinance Enclosure.
Within the enclosure was a stores establishment, Ordinance Offices, storage for stores including shot, coal yard and an commissariat administration office. Later a handball court, which still stands, was added. There was also a well which also supplied Fort Albert with water.
