In 1904 a 6-pdr QF Battery was built overlooking the entrance to the harbour. This QF Battery lies to the west of Plantagenet Battery and below Princess Royal Battery
The battery was intended to protect the mouth of the harbour from fast attack boats and also secure the mine field and boom defences at this location. The mine defences were never fully operational because there was insufficient trained personnel to operate it.
