Durabl El Hosh Battery is located at 325 feet (99 Metres) but this battery has no guns in 1882 (Crossman Report). The battery is some 120 feet (36.5 metres) by between 40 feet (12 metres) and 70 feet (21 metres) with a 6 foot (1.8 metres) parapet. There is a steeped banquette with some sections of loopholed wall for infantry defence. The actual guns faced North, overlooking the Western end of the Isthmus defence line. This position lies just above Bell’s Battery covering the Main Pass.
There is no indication that any guns were ever mounted here, so it appears that it was more of an infantry redoubt that gun battery. It is possible it was intended as a prepared position for field or mountain artillery.
The parapet wall runs uphill from Durab El Hosh to Ras El Burg Battery above. There is a gateway in the North East with a footpath running down from Durab El Hosh to the Hadded Hill area on the Johar Range of hills. This is part of the Mussoorie Defence Line.
The whole position has now been roofed over and is used as a reservoir. The Google Earth Map shows all the water pipes running downhill from this reservoir.
