The Mussoorie Defence Line ran along the mountain ridge to rear of the Isthmus Defence Line. The height of the mountain ridge was some 124 metres (406 feet) at Ras El Burg Battery up to 139 metres (456 feet) at Mussoorie Battery in the East. This defence line stretched for some 1,400 metres and large sections of the South face were protected by a cliff face. A tack ran along the top adjacent to the defence wall built by the Turks. The Mussoorie Defence Line included the following significant positions:

Main Pass Defences which included two defence lines and a covered way for infantry.
Bells Battery covering the Main Pass including the gateway.
Durab El Hosh Battery covering the approaches to the Main Pass.
Ras El Burg Battery at the start of the ridge line.
Munssoorie Battery at the hight point with a rock cut track down to Ras El Erig Battery.
