Fort Largs was one of the two major fortifications defending Adelaide, South Australia. Fort Granville was as slightly earlier construction, both of these forts being designed by P Scratchley and William F.D. Jerviois. Work started on on Fort Largs in 1883, which was then called Adelaide Battery. The idea was to build a similar fortifications to that at Fort Granville. By 1889 Fort Largs mounted two 6-inch BL guns and it quickly surpassed Fort Granville in importance to the defence of Port Adelaide.
